How to Create a Cinema Experience at Home

Home Cinema Installation Edinburgh

Many people are now investing in large, wall mounted, high definition TVs so that they can enjoy a home cinema experience in the comfort of their own home. However, although the picture quality of the latest TVs can be superb, the sound quality for a flat screen TV is rarely as good. If this is the case you may be interested in finding the best way to improve the sound quality and achieve that fantastic cinema experience. Two of the best options available are to purchase and install a Sound bar or a Surround Sound System. Which is right for you will depend on your budget, the size of your room and the quality of sound you are looking for.

What is a Sound bar

A Sound bar is basically a long thin box filled with speakers. It usually sits beneath the television (or on the TV stand) or is fitted on the wall below a wall mounted TV. If you desire the full movie experience including the deep intense base sounds, then you may also want to buy a subwoofer. The latest subwoofers are much smaller and more discrete than they were a few years ago, so finding room for them is not an issue. Some of the latest models of sound bars even come with external subwoofers included.

Advantages/Disadvantages of Sound Bars

The main advantage of a Sound bar is that they are usually cheaper to buy than surround sound system. They are also quick and easy to install and there are very few wires. The main disadvantage is that they can’t create the complete surround sound effect due to the positioning of the sound bar. However, good quality sound bars can work reasonably well in small to medium sized rooms.

What is a Surround Sound System

A surround sound system generates sound in different areas of the room. This is done via a number of speakers positioned around the room. If the idea of multiple speakers in one room fills you with horror don’t panic, many speaker manufacturers have started to design speakers that are both stylish and discrete. If this is still too much for you, a good home cinema installer can hide speakers in the ceiling and in the walls too, with all of the wires and speakers completely out of sight. At The Aerial Man Scotland we can offer a couple of ranges of “invisible speakers".

Advantages/Disadvantages of Surround Sound Systems

The main advantage of this system is that it usually produces a much superior quality, full range surround sound. It is also suitable for use in any size of room. If you are looking for the best Home Cinema experience then this type of sound system will definitely outperform a sound bar. The down side is that it can be more expensive to buy, trickier to set up and usually looks and works much better when installed by a qualified engineer.
